Teaching you how to repair a diesel generator radiator

1. Leakage Check. Generally, after cleaning the radiator, a leakage check is performed. Two methods can be used for the check.
(1) Block the radiator's inlet and outlet, install a connector on the overflow pipe or water filling plug, and inject 0.15-0.30 kgf/cm2 compressed air. Submerge the radiator in a water tank. If there are bubbles, that is the location of the leak.

(2) Check using the water injection method. During the check, block the radiator's inlet and outlet. After filling the radiator with water from the drain port, observe whether there is any leakage. To facilitate the detection of minor cracks, a certain pressure can be applied to the inside of the radiator, or the radiator can be slightly vibrated. Then, observe; water will seep out from the leaking area.
2. Radiator Welding Repair. Radiator welding repair generally uses soldering. Before welding, clean the oil stains from the welding area, scrape a new metal layer with a scraper, then heat appropriately. After the soldering iron is heated, dip it in zinc oxide solution, then apply solder. After it is firmly attached, grind the weld flat, and clean the zinc oxide around the weld with boiling water to prevent corrosion.
(1) Welding Repair of Inlet and Outlet Chambers. If the damage to the inlet and outlet chambers is not large, it can be directly repaired with solder. If the damage is large, use red copper sheet for welding repair. When patching the weld, first apply a layer of solder to one side of the copper sheet and the damaged area. Place the copper sheet on the leaking area, then heat the outside with a soldering iron to melt the solder and weld it to the surrounding area.
(2) Welding Repair of Radiator Pipes. If the surface pipe of the radiator is cracked and the ulcerated area is not large, a small amount of the radiator around the pipe can be torn off with needle-nose pliers, and then directly repaired with solder. If the ulcerated area is large or the upper and middle pipes are leaking, the appropriate method should be selected according to the specific situation, such as clamping, blocking, joining, or replacing pipes. However, the number of clamped or blocked pipes cannot exceed 10% of the total number of main pipes to prevent affecting the heat dissipation effect of the radiator.
Chengdu Diesel Generator Manufacturer Note: If the upper and middle pipes of the radiator are leaking, they need to be heated with a gas stove flame at the contact point before removal. After welding both sides of the leaking pipe, weld the inlet and outlet chambers back together.
